All I knew was that I wanted to celebrate. 5th December officially marked my last day as an undergraduate. Happy?? Elated even J. That was before the feeling of lost and without a sense of direction setting in. And knowing it would happen anytime soon, I choose the next day to be the day I went off to Penang. Never did planned the trip since I am a gambler and I love to push my luck in whatever endeavor I got into J. And I dragged my most trusted friend Khuzai, who got her roommate to have an interest in the trip and demanded to be included. And Husna, I to ld her. I wanted to run away to Penang. She was like “oi, aku pn nk ikut jugak~”.
We waited until Waida got through her presentation and then we set off. Haha, bleh bajet nk tdo dlm keta je tu.. The first place we headed for was Komtar, since it was the most visible landmark on the island (actually we were err… ‘sight seeing’ in the mall besides it). Haha, actually, we didn’t know where to go after arriving there. Khuzai talked to a security guard and got the idea of checking out the map of the island before we proceeded on anything. We chose a place to crash for the nite. After settling in, we headed to (err Khuzai, aku x ingt laa name tmpt kite makan tu) for makan2 =) it was by the sea, and the wind was blowing like crazy. The waves simply raced from the sea inland. Even though it was dark, the dancing bubbles marked the progress of each menacing waves. Simply delicious having the winds whip my face of all the worries and insecurities crusted on it. Saw the walls of Fort Cornwallis. Pe lg kite wat mlm tu?? Jalan2 pusing2 abihkan minyak keta ek..
Fast forward to the next morning~~ got up with the sound of the reverberating azan (cemerlang nye kitorg yg tgh bercuti tu). Groggily planned the going-ons for that day. The map proved to be most useful (in terms of throwing ideas into our heads). Ten minutes to eight, we checked out of the hotel room and headed for the nearest mamak for breakfast. The complimentary paper from the hotel featured my first love, the mini cooper
Love was definitely in the air for me.
Then we set of for our journey to nowhere ;P I followed Khuzai’s instructions to where ever.. up J. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Fantastic Four, Freddy Kruger, Child’s Play dolls, Pikachu and friends, warships and planes, the works. Seriously, the war planes and ships were the most fascinating J. That was just the first stop, and since the trip was an impromptu kinda trip, things were looking good J.
Gurney Drive, and into whatever road where we happened to spot sign boards to ‘Toy Museum’ at every traffic light we happened upon. The signs read "Toy Museum 3000m" up till the museum itself. But the sign boards did serve it propose. It got us interested in visiting the museum. We were a bit reluctant to enter since the ticket costs rm10 per head, but since we were actually there (and it’s in the middle of nowhere) we pluck out the red notes and entered. Lo and behold, there were so many action figures, dolls, figurines and toy models of almost anything
Next up we traveled to Bt Feringghi J. The view from the coastal road was, incredible. It was fun driving there as the long winding roads dropped of steeply into the turquoise sea. God knows how badly I needed to view the sea. It was peaceful and frightening all at the same time.
We happened to stop at an exquisite must see site, the Herb Gardens J. We were just going to stop for some refreshments and enjoy the food and the sea, but again we were delightfully surprised by what we stumbled on beyond the stone wall J. Another red note from each of us and we were on a refreshing tour of the gardens. The path were divided into red, orange and green paths, which we followed scrupulously. The flowers and plants there… dreamy~~ the vibrant colours and the sweet aromas rejuvenated us. The landscaping was amazing, the flowers was candy to the eyes, the atmosphere was invigorating (ade bakat jd advertiser x??) J. After two hours of gawking and gulping and experiencing the beautiful garden, we came down to the small stall and had a pre-lunch which consists of rojak, abc, laksa and sky juice… I’ve never had much interest in these eateries but the food at that time was scrumptious J. I guess it was the fresh air, the breezy afternoon, the seaside and being with people that I want to spend my time with.
Who could resist a dip in the sea? After finishing the food, we headed to the beach and got our feet soaked in the sea
J. The sand was deliciously soft and warm.. the best part of the seaside?? It was when mak called and kantoikn my secret trip ;P “Kakak tgh buat ape tu?” “Tgh jalan2” “jalan2 kt mane?” “tepi pantai” “pantai Lumut ye” “tak laa… kat Penang” “kt sg mane?” kt Penang” “sg mane?” “Penang!!” “Penang??!!” oh well, she was bound to find out sooner or later.
We continued on our journey. From here onwards, it was winding roads and hilly terrain, not much of the sea can be seen. There was this huge dam that we passed through, but the water was the colour of teh tarik mamak. It had started to rain, and I was getting rather anxious. For one, we don’t exactly know where the hell were we and for another it was raining cats and dogs!! There were trees… and more trees… the winding roads snaked gradually upwards and got smaller and smaller. I don’t know whether to count it as a blessing or a bad omen when there were so few vehicles that we passed by. Eventhough there was a heavy downpour, the beauty of the hills were still obvious to us and left us in awe. I’ll never forget the waterfall underneath the road J. Simply spectacular. Titi sumthing was the name (and again Khuzai, plzz help me in remembering!!). The road was rather desolate. Seriously. At certain turns, the road became the pathway for water running downhill. My only thought was for the road to level again. There were a few 360 turns and hairpins that I had to negotiate. Haha. I was scared!!
Zohor was performed at USM’s masjid. Then we went sight seeing within the campus, since it is famed for its beautiful landscape and views. And as usual I got disorientated and had to backtrack a few times to get out of the campus area. Headed back to George Town, just to satisfy our curiosity over the birth place of P.Ramlee. haha. Name pn tourists ;). We were aiming for the flea market, it sells leather goods and I am in dire need of a new wallet (by the way, you guys could gimme one as a bday present, mine’s almost torn apart now). But alas, the market closes at 1pm, and we reached there at 3-whereabouts. The drive to the places mentioned was nothing short of memeningkn. One way roads made it even more complicated ;P. Good thing there was no end of nice cars to gawk at J.
What’s to a trip without getting any souvenirs right? (iye laa tu =P) someone asked Yda to bring back jeruk (aaaaaaaa, asal leh lost the name??). since I knew one of maks’ favourite jeruk was the jeruk mangga, I bought those for her (while praying that she wouldn’t scold me for taking off the way I did). The second hand book store was so crowded with books, I felt lost. I still can’t find the books that I’ve been hunting for ages. If you ever want to get any bargains there, never leave it as the last stop, you’ll never have enough time to go through its itinerary. I went home empty handed, Khuzai & Yda had a field day looking out for books to buy.
On the way out of the town, we got stuck in heavy traffic. Heh, the drive from one point to another in Penang was an experience to cherish, since you’ll get so many different driving environments. From being stuck in a jam, to scaling precariously on hilly terrain, you name it, Penang’s got it
Gone over Penang famed bridge and back on the highway to UTP. We still had a date to keep with the rector. Although late, we made it
hehe… at the last 15minutes~~ Oh well, we did have the intention of coming =P
Mau jalan2 lg~~ tp xde sape nk teman kn~~ ye ke?? hehe ;P
